BEFORE BED BUG TREATMENT

There are various approaches to bed bug control, each method does have advantages and shortcomings when compared to other methods. There may never be a single method or form of treatment which can provide a silver bullet solution for all possible scenarios involving bed bug infestation. Short of this, the method of extermination Alert #1 recommends will be based on information that is gained during the inspection process.

Alert #1 offers liquid residual treatment as well as full heat remediation techniques, and can provide vacuum extraction or steam application in conjunction with dust applications for safe and effective control of bed bugs. It is important to know which of these methods will be used as there may be slight variations to preparation guidelines. The exterminator from Alert #1 will cover the specifics of your treatment with you, but here a few things that you should be aware of when preparing for the arrival of pest management professional:

  • Prepare all your clothing and bedding in sealed plastic bags and take them directly to your washing machine and wash them in the hottest water possible, and then dry for 30 minutes on the highest setting possible which will kill the bed bugs. To keep cleaned items protected from the rest of the infestation, place them in a new plastic bag or other sealable container until the rest of the bed bugs are controlled.
  • Remove all unnecessary clutter which may limit access during inspection or treatment of the home. Clutter doesn’t cause bed bugs, but it does create lots of extra hiding places.  Be mindful when decluttering an area, as there may already be bed bugs hiding inside the items you intend to re-organize.  Take the time to check books and electronics thoroughly when going organizing an area since bedbugs are known to hide virtually any crack or crevice.
